Government Degree College Jammu City (Paloura) was established vide Government Order No. 269-HE of 2007 dated 20-12-2007 and it was decided that College would function in a newly constructed block of the Government Higher Secondary School, Paloura having two rooms. With the passage of time, requirements of the college increased and the authorities decided to shift college from Higher Secondary School, Paloura to Govt. College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Old University Campus, Canal Road, Jammu and subsequently the same got shifted to the` said location on 6th of Oct. 2009. It continued to function in makeshift accommodation at Canal Road, Jammu till March 2018. The main building of the college was constructed and in April, 2018 the college finally shifted to its own campus at Mishriwala. The college is affiliated to University of Jammu and is a co – educational institution; recognized by UGC under section 2 (b) and 12 (f) of UGC act 1956. The college has been granted permission to run Science stream (Medical and Non-Medical) from the session 2017-18. The college has successfully implemented NEP 2020, from 2022- 2023 session as per the guidelines of University of Jammu. The college offers subjects in Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Science Stream. The college has successfully conducted two skill courses under Industrial Skill Training initiative. The courses were Soft Skills and Personality Development Course with Central University, Jammu and Course in Computer Concepts with NIELET, University of Jammu. Since the college aims for a holistic all-round development of its students so they are encouraged to participate in curricular and co – curricular activities. The college is proud of its qualified, competent and dedicated staff. Apart from teaching and academic work the teaching faculty of the college organizes and takes part in national, international seminars, workshops and conferences. To keep themselves upgraded the faculty of the college also attends refresher, orientation and faculty development programs. The main building of the college comprises of 8 lecture halls, 5 laboratories,1 first – aid- center and a library having nearly 10000 books of different subjects. The college has taken digital initiatives by providing interactive panels in five class rooms and has also established one browsing center. The college is in its growing phase and a new block having 8 lecture halls and 4 laboratories, canteen, new toilet block and a girls hostel that can accommodate 270 girls will be started soon.
